York Racecourse

York Racecourse is proud to have been regularly voted both “UK Racecourse of the Year” and “Northern Racecourse of the Year” by the Racegoers Club, the disappointment of the abandonment of Ebor in August 2008 will not deter the crowds. The 2009 season promises to be another cocktail of sporting drama, summer sunshine (hopefully), culinary delights and luxury hospitality over the 17 days racing this year.

Live sport is about seeing the best, the Champions. York hosts such races all season so the top thoroughbreds along with the leading jockeys and trainers are frequent visitors. The Dante, or May, Festival is the first time racegoers can witness the £2.5million redevelopment of York Racecourse that has taken place over the winter.

In 2009 why not come to York in the Spring, perhaps to combine an afternoon of racing with a May half term holiday in the historic city. The Spring Weekend fixture on Saturday May 30th offers the chance to check the form of the leading thoroughbreds ahead of their mid season targets.

July sees the 50th John Smith’s Cup Meeting on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th July, with a music weekend on 24th and 25th July.  All this before The Ebor Festival from Tuesday 18th August to Friday 21st August.  The four day format has been retained for 2009 and there will be a lot of making up to do due to last year’s meeting cancellation – it will be an Ebor Festival not to be missed!

Winning Post PavilionsAn October fixture is added to the list this year, with Friday 9th and Saturday 10th October allowing additional opportunity to witness the thrill of York Races. The October Finale Stakes and The Sprint Trophy on each day respectively, concluding the 2009 racing season at York.
